A visit to The Discovery Museum in Reno, is a must for anyone with children and anyone of any age with a love for science, art and exploration. My little and I went to check out what the excitement is all about. With a short 35 minute drive from Truckee, we couldn’t wait to get there and play with all of the exhibits.
One of our favorites is a super fun play/exploration area called Little Discoveries, for infants up to 18 months. Even though my little is a bit older, we had to play (You know how that goes, right Moms and Dads?!) With a climbing structure, slide, coal mining area and other fun play, you don’t want to miss out.
The next exhibit we absolutely LOVED and could not get away from, was Da Vinci’s Corner. Ranging with activities for ages 1-100, this exhibit was well worth the time spent. With intersection of science, art and fun, your children and even YOU, will be exploring with smiles and excitement. Our favorite was the magnetic blocks and the pipe maze. So much fun!
We can’t forget about our other favorite exhibit, Truckee Connects. Learn about the Truckee River and the many uses of water such as recreation, irrigation, hydroelectric power, and wildlife; Truckee Connects allows you to experiment with water and explore many of its properties.
PS – Bring an extra change of clothes just in case your little gets water everywhere. Thank goodness, I had an extra shirt. They do have wall mounted hand driers conveniently placed for such accidents.
The current featured exhibit is A T-Rex named Sue. Come check out the fun!
At a heart-stopping, 42 feet long and 12 feet high at the hips, Sue is the largest, most complete, and best-preserved T. rex ever discovered! A dramatic, life-sized skeleton cast of Sue is the centerpiece of this blockbuster exhibition that also features digital and hands-on interactive exhibits that help you uncover Sue’s past and explore the field of paleontology.
These were just a few of the many permanent exhibits the museum displays. And don’t forget about the Art Alcove and The Shop for creating art and building wonderful creations. For more information on the museum and membership prices, visit their website.

Don’t forget you can visit The Discovery after 4:00pm tomorrow and every Wednesday when admission is just $5.00 per visitor! Members and children under age 1 are always free. And best of all, the museum stays open until 8:00pm.
